Say the Name of What You Miss

Grace for the Next Chapter — Say the Name of What You Miss

Is there a name you would like to hold in gratitude today?

Not every ache needs to be turned quickly into a lesson. Some losses deserve to be named before they are explained.

We miss people. We miss places that no longer feel the same. We miss earlier versions of our lives and, sometimes, earlier versions of ourselves. Christian hope does not require us to pretend those absences do not hurt. Jesus wept at the tomb of his friend Lazarus. Love and grief can occupy the same heart.

As All Saints Sunday draws near, remember that speaking a name can be an act of gratitude. The person is gone, but the grace they gave may still be moving through the way you live.

TODAY’S STEP: Say or write the name of someone you miss, then name one gift from their life that you still carry.

If it feels right, quietly hold their name in gratitude today.
