Grace for the Next Chapter — Make Room at the Table
What small gesture has made you feel welcome: a remembered name, a moved chair, or an introduction?
Belonging is a beautiful word. It is also a practical one. Someone has to move a chair, learn a name, explain the inside joke, or notice the person hovering at the edge of the room.
Most people do not need a grand welcome. They need a clear sign that their presence will not be an inconvenience. Jesus repeatedly made room for people others had pushed aside—not as projects, but as neighbors worthy of attention.
Look around the places where you already have a seat: your church, neighborhood, club, family gathering, or regular lunch table. Who might be unsure whether there is room for them?
Offer the invitation before you can guarantee a perfect conversation. Ask one more question. Introduce two people. Scoot over.
A larger community sometimes begins with one chair and one person willing to move it. Which small gesture has made room for you?
